The 2S25 Sprut in real life, during the Moscow Parade in 2009.

The 2S25 Sprut-SD (Russian: Спрут; English: Octopus) is a light tank based on the BMD-3 chassis, but with a much larger 125mm smoothbore gun. It is a modern-day tank destroyer manufactured by Volograd Tractor Factory.

The 2S25 Sprut retains most of the features of its BMD-3 cousin and is meant for the Russian Airborne forces as a tank destroyer that can be airlifted into battle and move about quickly. The armor on the turret is made of welded aluminum with a composite skin to keep it light for airborne drops, but it retains the strength to be able to hold up against 23mm rounds from about 500 meters away.

Battlefield 2: Modern CombatEdit

In Battlefield 2: Modern Combat, the 2S25 Sprut is used as the Middle Eastern Coalition's main battle tank. Despite being based upon a light tank, it has the armor equivalent of a main battle tank and its main gun can easily rip through enemy armor. The 2S25 only features a driver seat, who controls the vehicle and its main gun, making it the only tank in the game to not have a secondary gunner on top.

Battlefield 3Edit

"Russian light and highly mobile tank destroyer based on the BMD-3 chassis."

— Battlelog description

The Sprut-SD is featured the Battlefield 3 expansion pack, Armored Kill.

Its American counterpart is the M1128 Mobile Gun System. Both are virtually identical in terms of firepower and protection, however the Sprut-SD has a slight edge in terms of mobility, due to the fact that it is a tracked vehicle, but this also reduces its top speed. It is a tank destroyer, meaning it has the armor and chassis of an IFV like the BMP-2M, but also carries a very large gun. That means that it is both fast and powerful, but in return has weak armor.

Like IFVs, it is capable of equipping reactive armor on all four sides, and can carry a large number of passengers. The passengers control small MGs, similar to the passengers in an IFV, and face either forward or backwards at an angle, allowing for suppressing fire on infantry who are mainly infront of or behind the vehicle.[1] Due to the fact it has a lower chasis, it has a slight advantage compared to the M1128 Mobile Gun System. The lower chasis provides a smaller profile and also enables it to engage infantry at very close range more effectively than both MBTs and the M1128.
