The AC-42 is a bullpup assault rifle featured in Battlefield 2042. It was first seen in the Open Beta trailer. It is the last assault rifle to be unlocked at level 40 and features a very high rate of fire in 3-round burst, acting closest to the preceding AN-94, while lacks a fully-automatic fire mode.
Compared to M5A3, AC-42 has higher bullet damage and then less bullet to kill at most distances. As far as 150 meters, the two bursts of AC-42 can kill one enemy with full health if all rounds are hit. Meanwhile, the spread and bullet velocity of AC-42 is slightly higher than M5A3 in various situations, so the shooter should control the distance of engagement to improve the advantage of accuracy. Similarly, the horizontal recoil of AC-42 is more obvious compared to M5A3.

- The AC-42 is not modeled after any specific real world weapon, but appears to be visually inspired by the Thales F90MBR rifle as well as the IWI Tavor series.
- Carbon Series weapon skin was originally called Русская точность (English: Russian precision). This was changed in Update 1 (Season 1).
