AK-12

The AK-12 in reality

The Kalashnikov AK-12 (formerly АK-200) is the newest derivative of the Soviet/Russian AK-47 series of assault rifles and was proposed for possible general issue to the Russian Army. In late September 2013, the AK-12 was passed over by the Russian military. The reason given was that the Russian military had millions of stockpiled AK-74 models, and some issues with early production models.

The AK-12 features semi-automatic, three-round burst (1000 RPM) and automatic (600 RPM) firing modes. The AK-12 has interchangeable barrels and can fire a variety of cartridges.

Battlefield 4

The AK-12 is an Assault rifle featured in Battlefield 4.

Singleplayer

In singleplayer, the AK-12 is used by the Russian Ground Force as its standard assault rifle. It can be found in Baku and Tashgar off of dead Russian soldiers. It comes equipped with a PKA-S, Magnifier, Heavy Barrel, and Folding Grip, as well as sporting ERDL Woodland paint.

Multiplayer

The AK-12 is the default assault rifle for all players. It is a fairly balanced weapon, having low-moderate recoil and decent fire rate. The AK-12 has slight tendency to drift left, which is helped by equipping the Compensator attachment, as it makes the recoil profile straighter upwards, at cost of increased spread per shot. Its lower fire rate can maintain its controllable recoil but may be a hindrance in extreme close quarters combat, as it can be easily beaten out by some of the faster firing Assault Rifles and PDWs. Its default attachments are a Kobra optic, Laser Sight, and Ergo Grip. The AK-12 unlocks Russian attachments, with US and Chinese attachments only attainable through Battlepacks.

It has a unique feature in which using the "burst" fire mode increases the firerate considerably. This can benefit the player to fire faster at close-medium range, or to tighten shot placement over range.

Trivia

  • The AK-12 was one of two assault rifles that appeared in the Battlefield 4 Beta, the other being the SCAR-H.
  • During the Beta, 100 kills with the AK-12 awarded the SG553 Mastery Dog Tag.
  • The AK-12 originally had 1,000 rpm for 3-round burst fire during the Beta, this was reduced to 750 rpm in the final release for balancing reasons.
