The AM-17 (Russian: Aвтомат Малогабаритный Avtomat Malogabaritnyj; English: Small-sized Automatic Rifle) is a carbine-length assault rifle developed and manufactured by Kalashnikov Concern. The weapon uses the 5.45×39mm cartridge.[1]

The AM40 is a weapon featured in Battlefield 2042, introduced in Master of Arms season. The Player can unlock the weapon by reaching tier 10 in the Battle Pass, and by completing assignments including 80 kills while aiming with SMGs and 40 hip fire kills with Assault Rifles afterwards.
The AM40 sits on the same pedestal as the VHX-D3 in that they function as close quarter competitors to the submachine guns that dominate the close range while possessing assault rifle qualities, Namely its higher ranged damage model and 1.9x headshot damage multiplier.
To suit its close range use the AM40 possesses a blazing fast fire rate of 850 rounds per minute, This when coupled with its 9 meters 4 hit kill range allows it to outpace most of its competition. Outside of that it will drop to a 5 hit kill out until 29 meters out. At this point the AM40 already kills fairly fast but the further out the target is, the larger the need is to pace ones shots due to aggressive spread patterns.
The weapon possesses a 30 rounds High-Power ammunition to assist it at ranged engagements, Despite the increase in recoil and small increase in range, The improved ballistics and lower rate of fire can make the AM40 much more competent to use at a range.
One advantage the AM40 brings to the tables is its well above reload speeds, With its extended magazine options reloading noticeably much quicker than any other gun in the class, This makes its drum mags an incredibly viable option that is made more with the inclusion of the Assault weapon proficiency.
