Radar (RAdio Detection And Ranging) is an object-detection system that uses radio waves to determine the range, altitude, direction, or speed of objects. It can be used to detect aircraft, ships, spacecraft, guided missiles, motor vehicles, weather formations, and terrain.

Battlefield 3

"Extends the range of the radar to see enemy and friendly aircraft for longer distances."

— Battlelog Description

Air Radar is an air vehicle specialization that is also available for mobile anti-air vehicles. Once unlocked for a particular vehicle type, it can be equipped in Customization. The Air Radar increases the size of the player's minimap and shows the location of all friendly and enemy air vehicles on the map. However, ground vehicles and players will no longer be visible.

The Below Radar specialization can hinder detection by Air Radar if the user is close enough to the ground. The ECM Jammer is also known to temporarily hide the user from the Air Radar too.

Air Radar is currently bugged, saying that it is a "Permanent Upgrade", although you still have to select it in customization.

Battlefield Hardline

"Replaces the minimap with a radar display, highlighting airborne targets in a large radius around the vehicle."

— In-game description

Air Radar is a vehicle upgrade featured in Battlefield Hardline. In a manner similar to the Battlefield 4 counterpart, it increases the size of the player's minimap and shows the location of all friendly and enemy air vehicles on the map. Despite that, ground vehicles and enemy targets are no longer able to be seen on the minimap.
