An-22

The An-22 in reality.

The Antonov An-22 Antei (NATO reporting name "Cock") was the world's heaviest aircraft, until the advent of the American C-5 Galaxy and later the Soviet An-124 and An-225. Powered by four pairs of contra-rotating turboprops, the design remains the world's largest turboprop-powered aircraft. It first appeared outside the Soviet Union at the 1965 Paris Air Show.

Battlefield 3[]

Singleplayer[]

The An-22 in Battlefield 3 can be seen on the mission Rock And A Hard Place, where it drops Russian VDV paratroopers in the valley of Araz. It is also seen in the next mission Kaffarov, when Dima and his squad HALO jump out of one to infiltrate Amir Kaffarov's villa. It is also strangely seen in Operation Guillotine, where they are dropping soldiers into Tehran, however they are likely placeholders for the C-130.

Multiplayer[]

It is found on the multiplayer map, Operation Metro, supposedly dropping French paratroopers (though the French military uses C-160 Transalls and C-130 Hercules). It is shot down by an AA emplacement on the Russian side. An An-22 also flies over the map on Donya Fortress.
