The Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) were an army corps comprised of troops from the First Australian Imperial Force and 1st New Zealand Expeditionary Force during the First World War until it disbanded in 1916 after the Allied evacuation of Gallipoli.

Australian and New Zealand forces were under British command as both countries were at the time dominions of the British Empire. Both countries wore British military uniforms, but the Slouch Hat (with one side cocked) were worn by Australians, whereas New Zealanders often wearing the 'lemon squeezer' hat (though it is likely uniform regulations were often ignored). Both militaries today retain a similar form of headdress, mainly for ceremonial occasions.

Today, ANZAC are revered in both Australia and New Zealand as the two nations celebrate Anzac Day every April 25 to commemorate the corps' actions during the war.[1]

Battlefield 1

The ANZACs are featured in the The Runner chapter of the singleplayer campaign, where members of the corps engage in heavy combat against forces of the Ottoman Empire during the Gallipoli Campaign. One particular member, Frederick Bishop, is the main point of view of the chapter.

Turning Tides

In multiplayer, on certain maps of Battlefield 1: Turning Tides where the British Forces faction appear, the Medic and Scout class are represented by ANZAC soldiers.

Trivia

  • Under Australian law, the word "ANZAC" and any variations are protected[2], with permission for its use granted by the Department of Veterans' Affairs. To this point, EA DICE appears to avoid using the term in all media.[3]
