Not to be confused with the Central Powers

The Axis Powers was an alliance of countries that opposed the Allies in World War II. The alliance started in 1936 from diplomatic efforts from Germany, and Japan to secure their expansionist interests. Italy would join the alliance in 1937. Other countries also held membership in the alliance though they would often change sides. At the height of the war, the alliance controlled significant portions of Europe, North Africa, and East Asia. Despite this, coordination between the top three countries was minimal. During the war, Italy would surrender to the alliance and instead join forces with the allies, leaving Germany and Japan. With their defeat in 1945 at the hands of the Allies, the Axis Powers was dissolved.

Trivia

Battlefield Vietnam

  • As Battlefield Vietnam reuses code from Battlefield 1942, in the game's code, the NVA-aligned factions are still referred to as "Axis".

Battlefield V

  • Germany was originally known simply as the Axis Forces, although this was changed with War in the Pacific when the separate Japanese faction was introduced. The faction's name is still sometimes displayed as Axis in Spectator Mode or during the End of Round screen.

Notes

  1. Battlefield 1942 labels both the Wehrmacht and Afrika Korp as different factions in the files; and thus, are labeled separately for clarity sakes.
