The BRDM-1 (Russian: Бронированная Разведывательная Дозорная Машина, Bronirovannaya Razvedyvatelnaya Dozornaya Mashina, English: Combat Reconnaissance/Patrol Vehicle) was an amphibious armored car used by the Soviet Union and went into service in 1957. Over 10,000 BRDM-1's were produced from 1957 to 1966, four years after the introduction of the enhanced BRDM-2.

The vehicle was armed with up to three SG-43 medium machine guns, with two being optional for side mounts, or a single 12.7mm DShK or 14.5mm KPV heavy machine gun. The vehicle was also produced in a number of variants with one, the 9P110, being used as a tank destroyer as it mounted six 9M14 Malyutka missiles in a hidden compartment that popped out from the top of the vehicle's hull. This variant was produced from 1963 to 1966 and was sold to a number of nations, such as North Vietnam.

Battlefield Vietnam

In Battlefield Vietnam, the BRDM is a tank destroyer used by the North Vietnamese Army. Armed only with guided anti tank missiles, the vehicle is very lethal towards enemy armor. The vehicle is also decently fast and is amphibious, allowing it to move around the battlefield with ease.

The missiles are guided by the player, in the same way as one would control a jet, with the objective being to crash into an enemy vehicle. This extends the use of the BRDM from anti-tank roles to anti-aircraft or even anti-infantry. The missiles fired, however, have a small blast radius, relying on direct hits to damage. The missiles are also quite fast, making accurately controlling the missile difficult.

The BRDM a high risk-high reward vehicle as it can destroy enemy armor easily, but it can also be destroyed easily as well by a tank shell or rocket, as well as anti-tank mines.
