Appearance is a feature which debuted with Battlefield 3. Appearance is basically different camouflages available to the player. It is somewhat similar to the SPECACT option of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and the customization of Battlefield Vietnam.

Customization in Battlefield 3 allows the customization of soldier and vehicle loadouts. Each kit contains a slot for primary and secondary weapons, two gadget slots, and a specialization slot. Soldier camouflage is also expanded from Battlefield 3. Vehicle loadouts consist of primary weapon slot, a specialization slot, and a countermeasure gadget slot.

Primary weapons have three attachment slots while secondary weapons have three attachment slots. The three attachment slots for primary weapons are optics, barrel, and grip. Attachments serve to improve the performance of a weapon such as reducing weapon recoil or the addition of a flashlight. Players may also customize their dog tags which will be displayed on killcards. Premium members also have the option to customize the appearance of their soldiers and weapons with camouflage. Camouflage patterns are unlocked for Premium members as they achieve player progression and are different for each faction.

Trivia
  +
*Before the 1.04 patch, camouflages were only shown on the USMC class models. The only way to see what they looked like on the RGF classes was to browse them while in a multiplayer match on the RU team.
  +
*All Battlefield Premium camouflages do not share a similar pattern when changing teams, for example the Premium Camo 4 is a Navy Blue Digital Camo to camouflage against water and metal for the US side, whereas the RU side has a Woodland Stripe Camo which camouflages the player against woodland.
  +
**The premium camouflages for the US side are predominantly camouflaged against both desert and urban, while the premium camouflages for the RU side are predominantly camouflaged against woodland.

BF3 Vehicle Loadout

Vehicle loadout
