An image promoting Battlepacks.

First revealed on the official Battlefield website, Battlepacks are content packages featured in Battlefield 4, Battlefield Hardline, and Battlefield 1 that add a new layer of customization and element of chance to multiplayer via microtransaction elements.

Throughout the course of their multiplayer career, players will be awarded Battlepacks through the completion of specific objectives or as is the case in Battlefield Hardline and Battlefield 1, they may also be awarded through purchasing with in-game currency that is earned through multiplayer progression. Battlepacks award random items designed to add customization options to give players more personalization. Packs will not include two of the same items at once nor will any previously unlocked items be repeated in the packs (excluding XP Boosts). This does not apply in Battlefield 1, where duplicate items are instead optionally traded in for scraps.

While in Customization, items that may be received via Battlepack are marked with a special icon. Many Battlepack items are visually distinct but functionally similar from other items in the same category. For instance, the Vertical Grip and the Ergo Grip both increase weapon stability while moving; the Vertical Grip is a Battlepack item, while the Ergo Grip is unlocked at start or received through progression.[1]

Battlepacks were able to be purchased in Battlefield 4 following a May 27, 2014 update.

Battlefield 1

Battlepacks return as a feature in Battlefield 1. Unlike past installments, they do not award attachments but instead weapon or vehicle skins, XP Boosts, and puzzle pieces which can be used to obtain exclusive melee weapons. Originally, battlepacks were randomly given to a fraction of players at the end of every game. Following an update on July 29, 2017[2] however, the method of earning battlepacks was changed to a progress bar shown at the post game scoreboard. Progress points are obtained depending on a players performance in a match with a Battlepack being awarded once the bar is filled.[3]

There are multiple different types of Battlepacks with their content determined by the type and revision number. Revisions are updated at the start of every week, replacing the previous revision. Battlepacks awarded with older revisions will be retained upon release of the new revision. Superior Battlepacks are awarded to Season Pass users for free once per month. Purchasing a Season Pass will award players with all the Superior Battlepacks they have missed from prior months.

Standard Battlepacks may also be purchased with Scrap or real money. The release of the They Shall Not Pass expansion introduced the Exchange which allows players to directly purchase skins, puzzle pieces and XP boosts from a menu with scraps. Much like Battlepacks, the contents of the exchange in a given week are static, and change each week.

DICE introduced new Battlepack variants on March 8th, 2018.[4] These new Battlepack variants involve a single purchase to obtain all the pre-determined skins in a single case, depending on rarity, item or class.
