A saber is a curved, single-edged sword designed for use from horseback. It is a common and often symbolic weapon among cavalry units, and in cultures that cultivated them. Combined with the speed and maneuverability of the rider's horse, the saber makes for swift, rapid strikes against isolated enemy infantry.
Battlefield 1
The Saber was first seen in the "Battlefield 1 Official Reveal" trailer, brandished by a Bedouin rider. A scene from the "Battlefield 1 Gamescom Gameplay" trailer shows a foot soldier striking down a medic. It is not yet known if the saber is available to the standard infantry kits in multiplayer.
Multiplayer
The saber is one of two weapons available for the Cavalry kit. While mounted on a horse, the rider can use the saber to reach far to right side to slice infantry or opposing cavalry. The saber also serves as the Cavalry's melee weapon while on foot.
Other riders can use the saber while mounted, but retain their original melee weapon after dismounting.
