Co-operative or co-op gamemodes allow a player to play with a small party of friends, primarily against Non-Player Characters. NPCs may also appear as teammates in certain games.

Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield Vietnam[]

In Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield Vietnam, co-op is only available on a map if it supports singleplayer. A co-op game is started from the multiplayer server menu, but does not have the restriction of a certain number of players required to start the game. Unlike in a singleplayer game, the player can change his team in the middle of a co-op game.

Battlefield 2[]

The co-op mode of Battlefield 2 works similarly to the older games, with available maps being limited to the 16-player version as with singleplayer. However, Battlefield 2 introduces a restriction that, if the game is started from the "create local" menu, two or more players are needed to start the game.
