The '''DP''' (Russian: ''Degtyaryova Pulemyot''; English: ''Degtyaryov's machine gun'') was a Soviet light machine gun designed by Vasily Degtyaryov in 1927. Though not very widely used by the Soviet Army, many DP machine guns were used and produced by other countries such as Finland and the People's Republic of China (where it was designated '''Type 53''') who then sold many units to the neighboring North Korea and North Vietnam. The DP fired the 7.62x54mmR cartridge at a rate of fire around 550 rounds per minute from a 47-round pan magazine placed on top of the gun.

In ''Battlefield 1942'', the '''DP''' is issued to the [[Red Army]] [[Assault (Kit)|Assault kit]]. It has a 47 round drum magazine (mounted on the top of the weapon sideways), a high rate of fire, medium recoil, medium damage and low accuracy. It can generally kill in 3-5 shots. It can be considered more effective than other Assault weapons in-game because of its high 47 round capacity, but it loses in terms of accuracy and recoil. Going prone or burst-firing is recommended for far-away targets as the accuracy can deteriorate quickly when standing up and the recoil can easily throw off a player from its target. As well, the weapon is can waste ammunition because of its mediocre damage input as well as only having 2 spare magazines.

The DP (Russian: Degtyaryova Pulemyot; English: Degtyaryov's machine gun) was a Soviet light machine gun designed by Vasily Degtyaryov in 1927. Though not very widely used by the Soviet Army, many DP machine guns were used and produced by other countries such as Finland and the People's Republic of China (where it was designated Type 53) who then sold many units to the neighboring North Korea and North Vietnam. The DP fired the 7.62x54mmR cartridge at a rate of fire around 550 rounds per minute from a 47-round pan magazine placed on top of the gun.

Battlefield 1942

In Battlefield 1942, the DP is issued to the Red Army Assault kit.

Battlefield Vietnam

In Battlefield Vietnam, the Type-53 variant of the DP is uniquely issued to the Viet Cong Assault kit. It has a 47 round magazine, high damage, moderate accuracy and moderate recoil. It can generally kill in 3-5 shots. Unlike the DP in Battlefield 1942, the Type 53 has much less recoil, better accuracy and worse than 1942. It is most effective at close to medium ranges, but it remains effective at long ranges as long as a player takes the necessary measures to maximize accuracy and minimize recoil, like going prone and/or burst firing.
