El Alamein is a map featured in two installments of the Battlefield series.
Battlefield 1942[]
— World War II Anthology Edition Manual
El Alamein is a map featured in Battlefield 1942. It depicts the Battle of El Alamein (Arabic: معركة العلمين) which was a battle during the Western Desert Campaign fought in 1942. A crucial battle between the weakened German forces and the resurgent British, the battle marked a major turning point in the campaign, ending Axis hopes of occupying Egypt, taking control of the Suez Canal, and gaining access to the Middle Eastern oil fields.
Description[]
At a point known as Kidneys Ridge, Allied troops have been ordered to prepare for the German advance. As part of the plan to secure this area, Allied troops will lay down as many mines as possible. When the Panzer Division rolls through this area, it will be greeted by some explosive surprises. It's crucial that the Allies stop the enemy from storming through this area."
— British Map Briefing
The enemy is attempting to fortify defensive positions in the area. German scouts have pinpointed a number of these areas, and Rommel has sent advanced units to crush these outposts. Once these defenses are knocked out, German armored units will roll over the enemy and claim victory for the Fatherland. Rommel plans to ride with the first attack wave and personally accept the Allied surrender."

Conquest[]

This is a large desert map with two bases, one for each force, each side of Kidneys Ridge. There are two more control points along the ridge, one to the north and one to the south. Another control point is located in the middle of the desert between the ridge and the Allied base.
The map is fairly equally distributed. Both teams start with generally the same vehicles and planes. The team's objective is to capture and hold as many of the flags as possible to win the game. However, the Axis have the advantage of being closer to the ridge points and the Allies to the desert point.
Due to the large size of this map, and abundance of vehicles, most combat will be in the air or in tanks.
