El Alamein is a map featured in two installments of the Battlefield series.

Battlefield 1942[]

"The map is a mix of large desert expanses with a ridge between the Axis and Allied main bases."

— World War II Anthology Edition Manual

El Alamein is a map featured in Battlefield 1942. It depicts the Battle of El Alamein (Arabic: معركة العلمين) which was a battle during the Western Desert Campaign fought in 1942. A crucial battle between the weakened German forces and the resurgent British, the battle marked a major turning point in the campaign, ending Axis hopes of occupying Egypt, taking control of the Suez Canal, and gaining access to the Middle Eastern oil fields.

Description[]

"The battle at Tobruk resulted in heavy casualties. While generals on both sides realize that rest and reinforcements are needed, they also know that the only way to victory is to press on with the attack and seize whatever momentum they can muster. At El Alamein, the Allies are amassing the entire Eighth Army in preparation to counter the next Axis offensive.

At a point known as Kidneys Ridge, Allied troops have been ordered to prepare for the German advance. As part of the plan to secure this area, Allied troops will lay down as many mines as possible. When the Panzer Division rolls through this area, it will be greeted by some explosive surprises. It's crucial that the Allies stop the enemy from storming through this area."

— British Map Briefing

"The time has come for Axis troops to storm El Alamein and destroy the final remnants of the Eighth Army. This desert war has been costly, but soon the Afrika Korps will claim victory in North Africa. Rommel has been one step ahead of the enemy in nearly every phase of this war, and now he is preparing for final victory by defeating the Allies at El Alamein.

The enemy is attempting to fortify defensive positions in the area. German scouts have pinpointed a number of these areas, and Rommel has sent advanced units to crush these outposts. Once these defenses are knocked out, German armored units will roll over the enemy and claim victory for the Fatherland. Rommel plans to ride with the first attack wave and personally accept the Allied surrender."

— German Map Briefing

Conquest[]

"Keep the Germans off-balance by capturing and holding at least half of the outposts. In this manner we can ensure our ultimate victory."

— British campaign briefing

"The British are no match for the Afrika Korps. Hold at least half of the outposts to bring about their defeat."

— German campaign briefing

BF1942 El Alamein campaign

Campaign briefing

This is a large desert map with two bases, one for each force, each side of Kidneys Ridge. There are two more control points along the ridge, one to the north and one to the south. Another control point is located in the middle of the desert between the ridge and the Allied base.

The map is fairly equally distributed. Both teams start with generally the same vehicles and planes. The team's objective is to capture and hold as many of the flags as possible to win the game. However, the Axis have the advantage of being closer to the ridge points and the Allies to the desert point.

Due to the large size of this map, and abundance of vehicles, most combat will be in the air or in tanks.

Control Points[]

There are five bases on this map. Two serves as the Uncap for each team. And other three are neutral.

South Outpost[]

A neutral control point at the south of the mountain range in the center. Under German control, it spawns a Panzer IV, Flak 38, stationary MG 42 and Kübelwagen. Under British control, it spawns a Sherman, 40mm Bofors, stationary Browning and Willy.

In multiplayer a Flak 38 is already present at the start, while in singleplayer a team-dependent AA gun only appears when the point is captured.

North Outpost[]

A neutral control point to the north of the mountain range. Under German control, it spawns a Panzer IV, Flak 38, stationary MG 42 and Kübelwagen. Under British control, it spawns a Sherman, 40mm Bofors, stationary Browning and Willy.

East Outpost[]

A neutral control point on the desert to the east of the mountain range, closer to the British base. Under German control it spawns a Panzer IV, Wespe, stationary MG 42 and Flak 38. Under British control, it will spawn a Sherman, Priest, stationary Browning and 40mm Bofors.

In singleplayer the stationary machine gun will not spawn.

British Base[]

The uncapturable British starting point, located at the southeast of the map. It spawns three stationary Brownings, three Shermans, a M10, three Willys, a M3A1, a Priest, three Spitfires, a B17 and two allied AA guns.

In singleplayer only two Spitfires will spawn.

German Base[]

The uncapturable German starting point, located at the northwest of the map. It spawns two stationary MG 42, three Panzer IVs, a Tiger, a Hanomag, a Wespe, two Kübelwagen, three Bf 109, a Stuka, and a Flak 38.

In singleplayer only two Bf 109 will spawn.

Capture the Flag[]

The layouts of control points and vehicles are the same as Conquest. The flags to be captured are located at the main bases of both teams. The other control points start neutral as in Conquest.

Team Deathmatch[]

The layouts of control points and vehicles are the same as Conquest.

Outcomes[]

"The battle at El Alamein will be remembered as a key victory for Allies in North Africa. German forces in the desert have done everything they can to win the war, but they have nevertheless come up short. Their mighty tanks are running out of gas, and even Rommel must realize that the end is near. Montgomery will soon lead the Allied Forces to victory in North Africa."

— British Victory

"The Desert Fox has scored another crucial victory against the Allies. Time and time again, Allied forces believed that victory was in sight, only to have Rommel pull off another daring and brilliant maneuver. Now that Rommel has seized victory at El Alamein, he moves Germany one step closer to its goal of gaining access to the rich oil fields of the Middle East. With these resources, the German war machine will have all the fuel it needs to continue its assault throughout Europe."

— British Defeat

"Berlin sends congratulations to each member of the Afrika Korps for this decisive victory at El Alamein. Thanks to Germany's intervention in North Africa, the Axis forces can now make the victory march on Cairo that Mussolini has been waiting months for. Now that the supply lines in North Africa are secure, Germany will be able to deploy the experienced desert troops to the fronts in Europe."

— German Victory

"Rommel's depleted troops were no match today for the entire Eighth Army. The Allies were able to hold on to key strategic points at El Alamein, and there was nothing Rommel's divisions could do to root out these enemy strongholds. With war raging on the European fronts, it seems certain that Berlin will now recognize that North Africa is a lost cause and bring what's left of their experienced desert troops back to Europe."
