Emblems are a feature for all installments of the Battlefield series that are compatible with Battlelog and the Battlefield Companion.

A similar system was tested in Battlefield Vietnam but did not catch onto later games.

Battlefield Vietnam[]

Battlefield Vietnam features map-specific emblems for each faction, representing specific units that were part of the larger faction. They are first previewed, along with the unit's name, on the briefing screen just after the map is loaded, and will then appear on infantry as a shoulder patch. Unlike in later games, these emblems are not customizable.

Even if Custom Combat is used to change the factions, the map-specific unit names and emblems will remain.

Emblems belonging to the N.V.A. and Viet Cong will not appear, nor will those in the World War II Mod. If, due to Custom Combat, the N.V.A. or Viet Cong appears on the blue team, then the emblem will appear on the front of the clothing.

A number of soldier customization options, namely all the soldiers of the U.S. Marines, the second body option of the U.S. Army, and the second body option of the N.V.A. and Viet Cong, will not display the emblem due to a lack of clothing covering the area where the emblem would be displayed.

Battlefield 3[]

Emblems are utilized for Platoons in Battlelog. They can either be created through using a limited number of provided shapes or by using a custom image.

Battlefield 4 and Battlefield Hardline[]

In Battlefield 4, Platoons were originally removed from Battlelog, yet players now have the ability to create a custom emblem for their soldier. Emblems can again be created through the use of shapes, though custom images cannot be used. Up to three emblems can be created and saved with up to twenty shapes able to be used. Battlefield Premium members can utilize up to forty shapes. Once an emblem is set as active, it will automatically appear on the player's weapon, occupied vehicle, and player ID. Following the September 2014 patch, emblems now appear on the player's parachute once deployed.

In Battlefield Hardline, emblems function in the same manner as in Battlefield 4, in a separate instance of the same emblem creation tool. A new feature, however, allows players to "spray tag" their emblems onto surfaces of the environment. All Emblem Shapes in the Battlefield Hardline Beta were given the Advanced rarity, but are Standard quality in the release version of the game. Premium Emblem Shapes were awarded in groups of ten when unlocked from Premium Battlepacks.

Battlefield 1[]

Emblems are featured in Battlefield 1, functioning in a similar manner to past installments. On the player's weapon, the emblem is engraved onto a metal part of the weapon instead of being printed in full color, preserving the weapon's historical aesthetics. Custom emblems can be created and equipped in the same manner as Battlefield 4.

If a player does not have a custom emblem, a monochrome version of the faction's emblem will appear on weapons and vehicles.

At one stage, when a player is featured in the Highlights at the end of a round, his emblem would be displayed. However, this is no longer the case, and the screen simply shows the faction's emblem in full color. It is unknown when this was changed.

In addition, given Battlefield 1's historical nature, two other types of emblems appear on vehicles:

These emblems will change when enemies occupy the vehicle but will remain even if all players evacuate the vehicle. However, occasionally in singleplayer these emblems are seen removed when the vehicle is empty.

Battlefield V[]

Emblems are featured in Battlefield V. Unlike Battlefield 1, only exclusive emblems are available for use which are obtained from participation in special events. Additionally, emblems only appear on the side of vehicles when occupied. Exclusive emblems in Battlefield 1 are available for use in Battlefield V if unlocked and vice versa.

In addition, given Battlefield V's historical nature, vehicles also feature faction-specific emblems, in a similar fashion to Battlefield 1. This time, however, the emblems on land and air vehicles are distinct. Vehicles may also take emblems from a predefined set of faction-specific emblems, but these do not change by faction. In particular, vehicles used by the United States and Japan draw their emblems exclusively from these sets, so it is impossible to visually identify if a vehicle has been captured without resorting to the HUD.

Trivia[]

Battlefield 1[]

  • On some aircraft, especially in first-person view, there is a mismatch between the faction and the roundels displayed.
  • In the files for the vehicle identification emblems, there are both roundels and stripe patterns referencing Sweden and the Pan-Asian Coalition, with the latter taking an appearance similar to that seen in Battlefield 4: Final Stand:

Battlefield V[]

  • The texture file for faction-specific emblems is almost an exact copy of that of Battlefield 1, except that the factions appearing in Battlefield V have new emblems, and those not appearing are unchanged.
  • At one stage, if the player had no custom emblem, the faction's monochrome emblem would appear on the vehicle. This feature has been deleted since an unknown update.

Notes[]

  1. 1.0 1.1 On Turning Tides maps, markings disappear when the vehicle is evacuated, but the player's custom/monochrome emblem remains.
  2. 2.0 2.1 Identical to the Russian Empire.
  3. 3.0 3.1 Markings disappear when the vehicle is evacuated, but the player's custom/monochrome emblem remains.
  4. Identical to the British Empire.
  5. Identical markings for land vehicles and aircraft.
  6. Appears only when a US player captures a German aircraft. Default US planes use roundels from faction-specific texture sheet.
