FG42

Early and late WW2 variants of the FG42.

The Fallschirmjägergewehr 1942 (English: Paratrooper rifle 1942, colloquially referred to as the FG42) was a purpose-designed automatic rifle intended for use by the German Fallschirmjäger units of the Luftwaffe. It is semi-bullpup in configuration, with a side-loaded magazine, and fired the full-sized 7.92mm Mauser cartridge at 750-900 rounds per minute. It was a response to the early failures of German paratroops in Cyprus and other places, who had to have their weapons dropped in separate crates and had only sidearms to defend themselves before they could retrieve the crates.

While a novel design, the weapon had numerous drawbacks. It was expensive to produce, the side-mounted magazines tended to unbalance the weapon and resulted in a hard pull, which was exaggerated by the power of the cartridge it fired.

Battlefield 1942

The Fallschirmjager Gewehr 42 (referred to as the Gewehr42 in the game files) is an Assault Rifle featured in Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons of WWII, issued to the German Elite Forces Assault kit. It has a high rate of fire, moderate accuracy, high damage and medium recoil. It uses a 30-round magazine. According to the game files, it uses the same projectile material as the StG 44, hence being identical in stats.

Battlefield V

"With its selective fire functionality the FG 42 was way ahead of its time. German paratroopers used and liked it, but it was never produced in great numbers."

— In-game description

The FG-42 is a weapon featured in Battlefield V. It was first seen in the Devastation of Rotterdam trailer.

Singleplayer

Throughout the singleplayer war stories, the FG-42 is the primary weapon of enemy German machine gunners, in addition to being used by British paratroopers during the 1940 section of My Country Calling. It can also be found in supply crates throughout the other war stories.

Multiplayer

The FG-42 is unlocked for the Support at class rank 16. With the highest fire rate and lowest magazine capacity of the LMGs, the FG-42 has the quickest time to kill in its class at the cost of high Vertical and Horizontal recoil, plus frequent reloads. Although its integral Bipod and select-fire capability allows it to engage targets at extended range, the weapon's characteristics generally favor closer range combat than most other LMGs.

It is the only Support weapon thus far with the ability to mount a Bayonet through upgrades. Its two general paths are geared towards improving recoil control, With the left side decreasing Aiming down sight speed, Horizontal recoil and improving hip fire, While the right side decreases Vertical recoil while improving stationary, Moving accuracy and movement speed through aiming.
