The map received a major improvement as part of Season 2 in Update 2.2 (Season 2).

Development[]
The visual design of the launch center was inspired by the Kennedy Space Center and the Tanegashima Space Center in Japan, while the terrain was based off of New Zealand, despite the map being set in French Guiana. Gameplay inspiration was taken from Caspian Border, which the level designers consider to be a map where the "Battlefield experience" works well. Orbital was designed to accommodate various playstyles and to be easily traversed from the air.[2]
Several changes were made to the map based off of feedback from the Summer 2021 closed technical tests, such as the rooftop flag being moved to the assembly building and capture zone heights being reduced from 100 meters to 50 meters to make them riskier to capture with helicopters.[2]
