For the Battlefield 1 and Battlefield V self-loading rifle, see RSC 1917
Chauchat-Ribeyrolles 1918 submachine gun

The Chauchat-Ribeyrolles 1918 is a weapon based on the RSC 1917 semi-automatic rifle mechanism made by some of the same creators behind Chauchat: Chauchat, Sutter, Ribeyrolles, and the Gladiator factory (often abbreviated CSRG). It was presented in 1918 as a "pistolet-mitrailleur" (machine-pistol) for use as firing port weapon by the French tank crews. Going through several trials, the results were satisfactory but the weapon was too powerful for the intended self-protection use.[1]

Battlefield 1[]

This item has a Codex entry: RSC SMG
"This SMG was based on the RSC M1917, and was designed to be used for close quarters fighting by tank crews."

— In-game description

The RSC SMG is a weapon introduced in the Battlefield 1: Apocalypse expansion for the Assault kit.

The RSC SMG is unique in many regards. It boasts a high damage per shot, with a 3 shot kill potential up to a range of 20m, a 4 shot up to 30m, and the ability to two tap opponents in close range with a headshot. Paired with the handling characteristics of an SMG and boasting a fire rate similar to that of the M1909 Benét-Mercié for the Support class and the RSC SMG is among the highest damaging automatic weapons in the game when engaging inside 30m.

A major downside of this weapon is its magazine capacity of only nine rounds and both partial and empty reloads taking nearly 4 seconds to load in another clip. Due to its usual 3-tap potential, this means that, in the best scenarios, the RSC SMG can only deal with 3 enemies at a time. This makes sustained engagements impossible for the RSC SMG, as dealing with multiple targets is simply not possible.

The recoil is fairly heavy, but somewhat balanced at 0.4 horizontally and 0.75 vertically, with a 1.667-2x FSRM, making the first shot of every burst kicking up 1.6-2x as much as every consecutive shot. This means that the best way to control the RSC SMG is to simply pull downwards on the mouse/analog sticks. While on paper the horizontal recoil seems heavy, the slow fire rate means that it accumulates slowly when compared to other weapons in its class.

With a base minimum spread value of 0.3-0.5 degrees, the accuracy is sufficient enough to engage enemies inside 30m. Like with the recoil, the RSC SMG accumulates spread slowly when compared than the other SMGs due to its low fire rate, meaning that by the time the spread starts to become inaccurate, the weapon will require a reload.

There are two variants of the RSC SMG: Factory and Optical.

Factory[]

The RSC SMG Factory is the standard version of the weapon, offering a decent iron sight picture, increases the spread recovery by 50%, increases the recoil recovery by 100%, and reduces the FSRM to 1.667x. The faster ADS time compared to the Optical Variant allows this weapon to play more like a traditional SMG.

Optical[]

The RSC SMG Optical equips an optical lens sight, offering a optical sight and better aimed accuracy than the Factory variant by reducing the minimum spread values and first shot spread increase by 25% at the cost of having a slower ADS speed. The improved accuracy will allow this variant to perform better at range due to its better base accuracy.

Trivia[]

  • The weapon was originally named the CSRG SMG, but its name was changed in a pre-release update to the CTE.
