The SMG-45 is a submachine gun manufactured by LWRC International (Land Warfare Resources Corporation), and first displayed at SHOT Show 2015. It is ergonomically based on the AR-15 platform, and uses UMP magazines. It entered full-scale production in 2019 when, in addition to the select-fire military/LE models, pistol braced civilian semi-auto versions became available as well.

The SMG-45 appears in Battlefield 2042 as the PBX-45.

Battlefield 2042[]

"Developed in the private sector for potential foreign military and NGO clients, the PBX-45 offers a powerful .45 ACP alternative to lighter submachine guns. The delayed blowback operating system reduces barrel rise."

— In-game description

The PBX-45 is a weapon featured in Battlefield 2042, first seen in the reveal trailer. It is the default SMG avaliable to all players.

The PBX-45, being the default SMG, is a reliable weapon in any hand. Its fast fire rate, controllability and accuracy makes it a great choice, even for experienced players.

Firing at 630-730 RPM, the PBX-45 is in the middle of the SMGs when it comes to fire rate. Unlike the faster firing SMGs like the K30 and the AC9, the PBX's fire rate contributes to the ease of use of the weapon. While relatively fast, it is easy to control and will not run ammunition dry as quickly as other SMGs. The default capacity of the PBX-45 is 30 + 1 rounds, which is quite average. This can be increased to a 40 + 1 rounds capacity via the Standard Issue / Extended. As with the other weapons, it can chamber more varieties of cartridges to adapt to different situations. These include Close Combat, High-Power and Subsonic rounds.

Close Combat rounds increase effectiveness in close engagements, increasing the fire rate by 50 RPM, the magazine by 5 rounds to a 35 + 1 capacity, and extending its first damage range up to 19 meters. Within those ranges, Close Combat rounds are able to reliably earn a 4-shot kill to the body. After 40 meters, however, this damage deteriorates faster than Standard Issues.

High-Power rounds extend the damage range further, thus making ranged engagements easier. They also reduce the fire rate down to 630 RPM, which can be useful to accurately hit long-distance enemies. The drawback to these mags is that they have 10 less rounds, and a lot less reserve magazines, making them less versatile.

Subsonic ammunition works well when paired with Suppressors, as they hide the player's presence on the minimap entirely. Other than that, they hit for damage similarly to High-Power rounds, up until 75 meters.

The velocity of the weapon is quite slow, at 480 m/s for Standard Issue ammunition, which make leading shots at longer distances being more difficult.

This weapon pairs well with Support specialists, as they get a faster draw time.
