Air vehicles designed for Vertical/Short Take-Off and Landing (or similar schemes to reduce launch distance) may switch between two flight modes, one for forward flight, and a second for hovering.
Certain air vehicles in the Battlefield series have this capability. Roll and yaw controls remain the same in either flight mode.
When landed, the player may press Move forward to quickly gain enough altitude for forward flight (which may cause issues if the gunship is in a confined space). The same action in mid-air does not alter altitude. Thrust level can be lowered in either flight mode by releasing all movement keys.

To engage hover mode in the F-35 while in forward flight, the player must hold Move backward while near the ground (which normally activates the landing gear on any jet). Keys/buttons assigned to Pitch up/down are used to control throttle, while the mouse/joystick is used to pitch up or down.
To return to forward flight, it may be necessary to use afterburners and/or upward thrust to maintain altitude.
The American F-35E Panther and MV-38 Condor use the Prone key to toggle between flight modes, and the standard throttle controls via movement keys/stick.
