For the compact variant, see HK51.

The Heckler & Koch G3 (German: Gewehr 3; English: Rifle 3), is a German battle rifle designed in 1959. Based off the Spanish CETME rifle, it is a selective-fire weapon chambered for the 7.62×51mm NATO cartridge. It was adopted by the West German Armed Forces in 1969, replacing the FN FAL, and remained the primary service rifle for the Bundeswehr until its replacement by the G36 in 1997. The G3A3 variant was developed in 1963 and incorporated a plastic buttstock, drum rear sight, and an improved trigger unit.

A wide variety of non-military variants were also produced, including the semi-automatic HK91. The PTR-91 (Precision Target Rifle) is an American clone of the HK91 produced by PTR Industries in compliance with the 1994 Federal Assault Weapons Ban.

The G3 appears in six games in the Battlefield series. It is modeled after the G3A3 variant in all games excluding Battlefield Hardline, where the civilian PTR-91 appears instead.
