Cut content The subject of this article, Harrier, has been cut from the final version of a Battlefield game. |
The Harrier (also known as the Jump Jet) is a family of fighter aircraft that were developed in the United Kingdom and exported to a number of nations, including the United States of America, where the USMC still use them. They are capable of Vertical/Short Takeoff and Landing (V/STOL) just like the F-35.
Battlefield 2[]
Cut content The subject of this article, Harrier, has been cut from the final version of a Battlefield game. |
The Harrier was a cut vehicle that was to be included in either of the two booster packs of Battlefield 2: either Euro Force or Armored Fury. The vehicle itself was completely deleted, although there is a line which refers to the vehicle in Battlefield 2's localization files which refer to the vehicle.
KILLMESSAGE_VEHICLE_harrier DELETED
It is impossible to determine which of the booster packs it was intended for, as there is evidence for both possibilities.
Euro Force[]
The Harrier is mentioned in the file \python\bf2\stats\constants.py
under a section titled "booster pack 1", referring to Euro Force. In addition, the file GamePlayObjects.con
file for the 32-player variant of Operation Smoke Screen has the EU airfield Eurofighter Typhoon spawn as CP_32p_OSS_RefineryOutpost_VTOL
. Hence, the Harrier most likely would have appeared as a VTOL Fighter similar to the F-35B.
Armored Fury[]
On 12 January 2006, the French site NoFrag published a page containing previews of renders of vehicles for Armored Fury, including the Harrier among the SU39, Fantan Q-5, and A10.[1]
Battlefield Online[]
A render of the harrier was ultimately discovered in the game files of Battlefield Online. It erroneously features USAF insignias while having the Royal Airforce camouflage.
