The Huot Automatic Rifle is a Canadian light machine gun that was developed by Joseph Huot in 1916 during World War I. It is an automatic conversion of the Canadian Ross straight-pull bolt action rifle. The war ended before the weapon entered service into the Canadian Army and only four are confirmed to have been built.
Historically, the Canadians had a severe lack of automatic weapons. To solve this, Joseph Huot ingeniously converted the retired Ross rifle to fire fully automatically, with the Ross being ideal for such a conversion due to having a straight-pull bolt action and being available in large numbers. During testing, the Huot proved to be very competitive with other machine guns, particularly in the price department, being extremely cheap compared to the Lewis Gun & being just as good (if not better in certain aspects). The gun purportedly saw field testing in France which garnered good results, but the war ended before widespread production could begin. The order for the Huot rifle was dropped, sadly costing Joseph Huot an arm and a leg on his wasted investment.
Battlefield 1[]

— In-game description
The Huot Automatic is a light machine gun featured in Battlefield 1 for the.
Singleplayer[]
In Through Mud and Blood and Nothing Is Written, the Huot Automatic Optical can be obtained from weapon crates.
Multiplayer[]
The Huot Automatic is a weapon for the Support kit. Equipped with a bipod and a 25-round drum magazine, it offers a balance between control and accuracy.
Regarding performance, the Huot Automatic functions similarly to the Lewis Gun, sharing many similarities but standing out with its superior control. While it may not match the Lewis Gun’s ammo capacity, the Huot excels in recoil management and accuracy due to its extremely low horizontal recoil and low first-shot spread increase, making it an ideal choice for ranged engagements.
Low Weight[]
— In-game Description
The Huot Automatic Low Weight features bipod and iron sights. This variant regains accuracy quicker by increasing the spread recovery by 300%, increasing recoil recovery by 66%, increasing the spread decrease per shot by 25%, and reducing the first shot spread increase multiplier from -5x to -4x. This will allow the Low Weight variant to reach its minimum spread quicker.
When the customization option AA Sights is chosen, the Huot Automatic will use a pattern consisting of a set of concentric ovals. This is shared with the Lewis Gun.
Optical[]
— In-game Description
The Huot Automatic Optical variant was introduced in the Spring 2017 Patch. It is fitted with a lens sight and foregrip to allow for better ADS accuracy. It is unlocked by obtaining 300 kills with the Low Weight variant and 25 kills with the Limpet Charges.
This variant sacrifices the Low Weight benefits for better-aimed accuracy by increasing the ADS accuracy by 25% and reducing the horizontal recoil by 12%.

Trivia[]
- The localization files mention a Huot Automatic Trench variant, but it is not seen in the game.
- The first-person animation for the Optical variant of the weapon does not have the character holding the foregrip, and instead has them holding the magazine just like with the Low Weight variant.
- When modifying the Huot Automatic Optical variant through the "Customize Soldier" menu, the "optics" and "magnification" cannot be changed. These are only accessible when modifying the weapon in an active game, or on Battlefield Companion. The same applies to other variants of the Class Rank 10 weapons added in the Spring Update, namely the Hellriegel 1915 Defensive, Selbstlader 1906 Sniper and Martini-Henry Sniper.
