Battlefield 1: In the Name of the Tsar is the second expansion pack for the Battlefield 1. It was first revealed on February 28th 2017.[1] The expansion features the Russian Empire as a playable faction on the Eastern front of World War I during the cold Russian Winters. Additionally the Red Army is featured as a playable faction against the Russian Empire during the Russian Civil War.[2] The expansion also introduces playable female soldiers in the form of the Scout class for the Russian Army.[3] The expansion released on September 5th, 2017 for Premium Members, and released worldwide on September 19th, 2017.[4]

Trivia[]

  • In the Name of the Tsar marks Battlefield 1 as the first game in the Battlefield series to feature playable female soldiers in multiplayer.
    • Female soldiers featured in the expansion are based on the notorious Women's Battalion of Death of the Russian Army during World War 1.
  • Battlefield 1 New Splash Art
    Following release, the female soldier on the expansion's cover art replaced the Harlem Hellfighter soldier in the game's main menu.
  • The female soldier on the cover art is played by fashion model Vendelali.[5]
  • Many of the weapons in this DLC have highly detailed reload mechanics, reflected in each weapon's animations.
    • The General Liu Rifle was also planned to allow toggling between semi-auto and bolt-action firemodes, though this feature was incomplete and dropped in release.
  • Alongside Battlefield 4: Final Stand, the expansion was released for free to all players between May 23 to May 29, 2018[6] and June 5 to June 11,2018[7] as part of the Road To Battlefield V promotion.
  • Alongside Battlefield 1: They Shall Not Pass, the expansion was released for free to all players between October 10 to October 16, 2018 as part of the Road To Battlefield V promotion.[8]
