J-10

The J-10 in reality.

The Chengdu J-10 is a multirole fighter aircraft designed and produced by the People's Republic of China, is operated by the People's Liberation Army, and appears in Battlefield 2.

Battlefield 2

The J-10 in Battlefield 2 is the main fighter aircraft of the PLA and is one of the three fixed-wing aircraft operated by the PLA (J-10, Su-30 and the Q5 Fantan). Its counterparts are the USMC F/A-18 Hornet and the F-35B Lighting II, the MEC MiG-29 Fulcrum and the EU Eurofighter Typhoon.

Before patch 1.50, the J-10 used to be considered the best fighter jet in the game, as it is smaller compared to other fighters and used to be more agile as well. This is the reason why it is "banned" from the Wake Airshow map by putting it in a cage of fence.

After patch 1.50 balanced out the jets to give the F-35B the ability to be competitive, the J-10 has slightly worse handling capabilities then the F-35B. Like all fighters, its armament composes of six heat-seeking air-to-air missiles, two unguided bombs, and a 23mm twin-barreled automatic cannon. The J-10 has a disadvantage compared to USMC fighters (F-35B, F/A-18), as its cannon only has 300 rounds while the USMC fighters have 600.

Strategies

It is not recommended to use the aircraft for bombing purposes, as its two bomb payload has a small area of effect. When used for bombing, it should only be used for small areas, or when destroying slow vehicles like tanks. The J-10 is to be primarily used for taking out other fighters and helicopters, as its armament is designed for such task.

Even though the J-10 now has worse handling capabilities than the F-35B its still a decent jet to fly because there is a way to dodge heatseaking missiles without using flares. By pulling downwards and flying an upside down loop with afterburner activated, most heatseeking missiles can be avoided even without using flares. Skilled pilots know how to counter that move though, as it makes you vulnerable to the enemy jet's MG.

Trivia

  • The J-10 in Battlefield 2 has the serial numbers "81192". This is the same serial number that was on Lt. Cdr. Wang Wei's J-8 Fighter jet, which was the aircraft that collided with an American EPE3 surveillance aircraft during the Hainan island incident.
