The M1941 Johnson machine gun is an American-made light machine gun designed in 1940 by Melvin Johnson. It was developed from the rifle of the same name. It uses an in-line stock to decrease the weapons recoil, especially with the weapon's recoil operation. It used a 20-round magazine with .30-06 Springfield rounds. Though it was not mass-produced, the few that were issued to special divisions of the US Army Rangers. One notable unit that used the Johnson machine gun was the U.S. Army's First Special Service Force, a special operations unit composed of half Canadian, half American troops known as "Devil's Brigade".

The Johnson LMG is an Assault Rifle in Battlefield 1942 issued to the Canadian Army Assault kit.
Assault Rifles in Battlefield 1942 are Assault Rifle, Automatic Rifles or LMGs used by the Assault kit. With a high-power round capable of 3-5 shot kill to the torso, and two shot kills to the head, but have high recoil and in some cases Damage dropoff to contend to. They perform better at longer ranges and in the crouch and prone position compared to SMGs rate of fire and spread increase that can't perform as well at that range. While longer ranges they may fall to Standard Issue Rifles or Sniper Rifles, they can still perform adequately enough to challenge them.
The Johnson LMG can be considered essentially an inferior BAR 1918; despite having more ammo in general at 150 or five magazines with thirty rounds each vs. the BAR 1918s 120 or six magazines with twenty rounds. Its trade-off is a slightly lower rate of fire by 30 RPM, longer reload time by 1.4 seconds, higher recoil values, and marginally higher spread values in its first shot multiplier and standing values with everything else remaining the same. It does retain its base damage/multipliers due to having the same projectile type and velocity.
Its Axis equivalent is the StG-44, while both have the same number of rounds and magazine capacity. The Johnson has a better damage per round at 9 vs. 7 the StG-44 possesses. However, both require the same rounds to kill at three body shots, and thanks to the StG-44s rate of fire is higher by 90 RPM gives the StG-44 a slight edge against full health opponents, while the Johnson can kill slightly damaged opponents with two shots. The StG-44 has a faster reload by 1.6 seconds. Recoil wise: the StG-44 has lower recoil numbers overall and spread wise: The StG-44 has lower spread values in its max limit per shot multiplier and general movement, with slightly lower costs when standing with the Johnson having a slight edge when in a prone position.
