As with the Sherman, the Greyhound has larger Specialization tree than most of its German counterparts. At Rank 3, the main armament can be replaced with either a Quad .50 cal turret which, when paired with the Radar Package at Rank 4, can allow the vehicle to engage aircraft, or a 75mm Howitzer which increases blast radius and damage in exchange for longer reload times - both these upgrades drastically reduce the Greyhound's effectiveness against armored vehicles. For cannon-equipped Greyhounds, special ammo types available include Armor Piercing Shells for greater post-penetration damage and HE Smoke Shells for ranged concealment. Players can expand on the vehicle's scouting and hit-and-run capabilities with the addition of a Spotting Scope and/or Zoom Optics, AT Mine Drop, and directional Smoke Launchers. In addition to the standard survivability upgrades for the wheels, turret and engine, the base performance of the Greyhound can be improved with the Rank 3 reload speed upgrade, a Rank 4 acceleration and speed upgrade, Rank 5 turret turn speed upgrade, and Rank 6 ammo capacity increase.

M8 Tank

A preserved M8 Greyhound in reality

The M8 Light Armored Car was a 6x6 armored car produced by the Ford Motor Company during World War II. It was used by the US and British troops in Europe and the Far East until the end of the war. The vehicle was widely exported and as of 2006 still remains in service in some third world countries.

Battlefield 1942

The M8 Greyhound is a medium tank featured in Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons of WWII. It is issued to British SAS Forces and appears exclusively on Raid on Agheila. Its main cannon has a very short reload time, and can be used to rapidly bombard enemy positions. However, the vehicle features very light armor and is easily destroyed by light AT weapons such as the Panzerschreck. So light in weight is the Greyhound that firing the gun will push the vehicle backwards.

Battlefield V

The M8 Greyhound is a vehicle featured in Battlefield V. It is a light tank of the USA faction, equivalent of Germany's SdKfz 234 Puma. The vehicle replaces the LVT on European and North African maps.

The Greyhound has a three player capacity. The driver position controls the vehicle and its main armament. Although open top, the turret appears empty with the driver safe from small arms fire. The hull gunner operates a limited traverse M1919 from the front right of the hull, while the top gunner uses a 360°-turning, pintle-mounted M1919 affixed to the turret.

Except for the Puma, which it is roughly equivalent to, the Greyhound generally lacks the firepower and armor to face German tanks head-on. The vehicle has very low health that makes it especially vulnerable to AT Mines and special vehicle ammo, and while its default 37mm cannon is accurate, quick-firing and effective against both infantry and light vehicles, it has a high deflect chance against the front armor of medium and heavy tanks. The Greyhound makes up for these deficiencies in its excellent mobility, with top speed and acceleration that rivals light ground vehicles. Although it can potentially get stuck on obstacles because of its lack of tracks and low ground clearance, its 6x6 drive makes this less likely than on the Staghound T17E1. Furthermore its default inclusion of the Smoke Discharger gives it greater capacity to escape danger by way of a dense and long-lasting smokescreen that tracks the vehicle.
