An MP 28 in reality

The Haenel-Schmeisser MP28/II is an improved version of the MP 18. Designed by Hugo Schemisser in 1928 and produced by Haenel, the MP 28 differentiated itself from the MP 18 by having an additional semi-automatic setting along with a tangent sight. Furthermore, instead of a double-feed magazine, it featured a double-stack, single feed design in order to prevent malfunctions.

While never formally adopted by the Wehrmacht, it was heavily used by police and SS forces during World War II, although it was progressively replaced by newer designs like the MP 40 as the war progressed. It also saw use with other countries, particularly China. A British clone of the MP28 known as the Lanchester was used during WWII and remained in service with the Royal Navy until the 1960s, as well as the USSR.
