MP34 IRL

The MP 34 in real life.

The Steyr-Solothurn S1-100, is an Austrian submachine gun produced between 1929 and 1940, based on the MP 18. In order to circumvent the restrictions placed on the German arms industry via the Versailles Treaty, German company Rheinmetall acquired the Swiss company of Solothurn and Steyr in Austria. Solothurn designed the S1-100 submachine gun, and Steyr put the design into mass production. It was adopted by the Austrian army as the MP 34.

Although costly to produce, the MP 34 was noted for its high quality of construction, and was also adopted several other European, South American and Asian countries, including China and Japan. During the German Anchluss of 1938, the majority of Austria's weapons were seized by the Wehrmacht, who designated it the MP34(ö). Its saw use in the Polish and French campaigns of early World War II, after which it was mostly replaced by the simpler and cheaper MP 40, the remaining guns going on to arm second-line and police units, the Waffen-SS, and Germany's allies such as Hungary.[1]

Battlefield VEdit

"The MP34's design was based on the old MP18 submachine gun. Used primarily by the German army, it was an extremely well-made gun although the production costs were very high."

— In-game description

The MP34 is a weapon featured in Battlefield V. It first appeared in the This Is Battlefield V trailer. It is unlocked at Medic rank 16.

With very low recoil and high controllability being its primary statistical assets, the MP34 is better suited than most in its weapon category for longer distance firefights, and is unique amongst SMGs for benefiting greatly from stationary, aimed fire. The MP34 is capable of consistently hitting targets at medium range in fully automatic fire with minimal compensation, although low muzzle velocity inherent to SMGs can complicate engagements. This is the result of the lowest rate of fire in its class at 514 RPM, and comes with a similarly unimpressive 20 round magazine when stock. These factors give the weapon a quite poor time-to-kill in close quarters fighting, where it can be out-damaged by virtually all other SMGs, as well as some of the faster firing machine guns.

Specializations for the MP34 can be applied to further add to its strength at long range, or partially remedy its weaknesses at close range. On the right path, High Velocity Bullets at Rank 1 can improve performance at extended ranges, potentially competing with Assault Rifles in terms of accuracy, complemented further by the accuracy boosted Ported Barrel and Barrel Bedding upgrades at Ranks 2 and 4. Extended Magazine brings its capacity to the SMG standard of 32 rounds at Rank 3. The left path offers better responsiveness and minimal possible muzzle climb with Quick Aim and Recoil Buffer, the latter of which combines well with Light Bolt at Rank 3, which pushes fire rate up a respectable 599 RPM. The Rank 4 upgrade of Bayonet is unique amongst SMGs, and could theoretically serve as a last-ditch defensive measure if caught empty.
