"A magazine fed machine gun, the Madsen MG has seen service for over a century."

— In-game description

The Madsen MG is a weapon featured in Battlefield 1 for the Support kit. The detachable box magazine, which fits into the top of the weapon, can be a slight distraction. It obscures some of the user's view while aiming down sights on the left, along with the action handle doing the same for a smaller portion on the right. This disruption is offset by the weapon's potent rate of fire, easy handling and low hip fire spread, as well as reloading quicker than other small-magazine LMGs if the user still has rounds left in the magazine.

Singleplayer[]

The Madsen MG is the most common LMG in the campaign. Its Low Weight variant is standard weapon of Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian support units. Its Storm variant can be picked up from weapon crates in every level excluding Storm of Steel.

Multiplayer[]

Owing to the fast rate of fire, good hip fire spread, and fast reload speed, the Madsen MG is an excellent Support weapon to use in close quarters and at medium range, allowing Support players to attack positions effectively with Assaults. Due to it's much lower vertical recoil and significantly larger magazine (30 vs 20) compared to the BAR (which also excels at the same ranges), it is a viable improvement in terms of magazine capacity for only a small reduction in both firerate (which in turn results in less wasted ammo) and visibility when using ADS.

However, its inability to mount an optic along with its recoil makes it less effective for long range combat than most other Support weapons.

The vertical magazine and the charging handle result in some loss of visibility, and this becomes more obstructive at higher FOV (Field of View) values or at lower sight magnification levels (which have a greater FOV than higher ones), and vice versa. The alternate AA sights for this weapon also increase both the FOV and the visibility of vertical magazine itself, users should generally stick to the default sights for ADS.

Therefore, the default FOV and the default (1.25x) or greater zoom magnification are recommended for the least obstruction of visibility.

Three variants of the Madsen MG are featured in multiplayer: Low Weight, Storm, and Trench.

Low Weight[]

The Madsen MG Low Weight recovers both spread and recoil faster than the other two variants. It also has a bipod like the other Low Weight variants.

Trench[]

The Madsen MG Trench is fitted with a foregrip, granting better hip fire accuracy.

Storm[]

The Madsen MG Storm variant is fitted with a foregrip, granting slightly better recoil control.

Recommended Variant[]

It is recommended to use the trench variant as the increased hipfire accuracy is much more useful than a reduction in recoil on an already low recoil weapon and further improves its natural inclination for a more aggressive playstyle by making hipfire much more reliable.

Trivia[]

  • An Extended Magazine variant of the Madsen MG was planned but ultimately cut.
  • In the exchange menu, the skin The Bazentin Ridge is depicted with an incorrect icon — a duplicate icon of the skin The Dane. When unlocked, it has the correct icon.
