"The Battle of Greece continues! Deploy on a sloping mountain ridge and within the tight streets of a rural town on this infantry-focused map. Tanks and aircraft will stand aside for intense gunfights and sneaky flanks in the cobbled streets. Stay alert and prepare for challenging, vertical gameplay."

Marita is a Battlefield V map set to be introduced in the fourth chapter of Tides of War, Defying the Odds. The map is to be released in July 2019.

Operation Marita was the German codename for the Axis invasion of mainland Greece that started on April 6th 1941, with the offensive renewing Italy's ill-fated attempt to occupy the country in late 1940. The map's console name of Kalamas suggests the map is set during the Battle of Elaia–Kalamas that took place in the Pindus mountains from November 2nd to 8th 1940, although in reality this battle was fought between Greek and Italian combatants only. The Allied defense of the Greek peninsula, which would eventually involve British and Commonwealth troops, would ultimately lead to an Allied evacuation, with the campaign concluding with the German capture of Crete on June 1st 1941.

Overview

As with the majority of maps planned for release with Defying the Odds, Marita has an "up close and personal" focus with few vehicles. The map taking place on a hillside town overlooking a river, which is itself towered over by a large fortress on the summit. The map places further emphasis on verticality as the town's streets and surrounding areas vary in elevation due to the sloping hillside setting. The architecture and layout of the small town is reminiscent of Brusilov Keep from Battlefield 1, another map focused predominately on infantry combat.
