The Mikoyan MiG-29 (NATO reporting name: Fulcrum) is a fourth-generation air superiority jet fighter aircraft designed in the Soviet Union in the 1970s. The MiG-29, along with the Sukhoi Su-27, was developed to counter new American fighters such as the F-15 Eagle, and the F-16 Fighting Falcon. It was exported to multiple nations outside the Soviet Union and saw many combats since, although reports are mixed depending on who used it. The MiG-29 appears in Battlefield 2 and Battlefield Play4Free.

Battlefield 2[]

The MiG-29 is a fighter-jet operated by the Middle Eastern Coalition. The MiG-29 is one of the three fixed-wing aircraft operated by the MEC (MiG-29, Su-25 and Su-34). Its American, European and Chinese counterparts are the F/A-18, F-35B, Eurofighter Typhoon and the J-10.

Like all fighters, the MiG-29's armament composes of six heat-seeking air-to-air missiles, two unguided bombs, and a 30mm automatic cannon. However, the MiG-29 has a disadvantage compared to U.S fighters (F-35B, F/A-18), as it's cannon only has 300 rounds while the U.S fighters have 600.

It is not recommended to use the MiG-29 for bombing purposes, as its two-bomb payload has a small area of effect. When used for bombing, it should only be used for small areas, or when destroying slow vehicles like tanks. The MiG-29, like all fighters, is to be primarily used for taking out other fighters and helicopters, as its armament is designed for such task.

Battlefield Play4Free[]

In Battlefield Play4Free, the MiG-29 is the Russian Army's fighter jet. It appears at Oman and is usable with the Jet pilot training. The Jet can fire heatseaking missiles at enemy vehicles, including other jets, and drop bombs to destroy infantry and other ground targets. The MiG-29 also has access to countermeasures to thwart missile lock on, but the cooldown timer for this ability is longer than for other vehicles in the game.

Battlefield 2[]

  • In the files of the Special Forces expansion, there are textures for the MiG-29 with references to the MEC erased. These are not used, as Special Forces does not feature jets on any of its maps. However, this may be linked to the cut Airborne Specialist Ribbon.
