In France, the National Gendarmerie (French: Gendarmerie nationale) is a branch of the French armed forces, in charge of public safety, with police duties among the civilian population. It also contains a military force force and a special forces component. It is mandated to fulfill national security duties and duties in support of its parent ministry.

In Battlefield 3, the Gendarmerie appears as a enemy in Comrades. They are poorly armored and can be killed in about two to five shots. They are replaced by the more heavly armored GIGN teams at the near end of the level
Co-op
The Gendarmerie appears in Drop 'Em Like Liquid in the begining of the level. The can't be killed and are just for scenery. They carry UMP-45's
