The M1917 Naval Cutlass was the last new cutlass design adopted by the United States Navy. Developed as a replacement for the aging M1860 pattern cutlass, it is a matter of contention as to whether or not the weapon was actually issued, as photographs show the older M1860 still in service into the 1930s, while documentary evidence of the M1917's own service is notably lacking.[1] A variant of the M1917, known as the M1941, was both produced and saw limited service during World War II, with cutlasses being retired from naval stores in 1949.[2]

— In-game Description
The Naval Cutlass is a melee weapon featured in Battlefield 1, introduced in the Battlefield 1: Turning Tides expansion. It performs identically to other sword-type weapons, such as the Saber and Ottoman Killij, with high damage but low speed swings, and a relatively long reach.
