The Netherlands is a country in northwestern Europe that borders Belgium and Germany as well as the North Sea. It is the constituent state of the Kingdom of Netherlands, which also includes three overseas territories. Its capital is Amsterdam.

The name Netherlands literally means "Low Countries" in reference to its flat topography, and was historically part of the Low Countries region which includes modern-day Belgium and Luxembourg. The country achieved its independence from Spain in the 16th Century, and has been a parliamentary constitutional monarchy since 1848. The country remained neutral during World War I and the start of World War II, but was occupied by Nazi Germany between 1940 and 1945. In the latter half of the 20th Century, it became a founding member of both NATO and the European Union.

Battlefield 1942[]

In Battlefield 1942, the multiplayer map Operation Market Garden is set in the Netherlands, depicting the Allied airborne landings at Arnhem in September 1944. In Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons of WWII, the map Hellendoorn takes place around Overijssel, Netherlands.

Battlefield V[]

The Netherlands makes a more substantial appearance in Battlefield V.

During the singleplayer, the 1944 section of My Country Calling takes place in the vicinity of Nijmegen Bridge.

In multiplayer, the maps Rotterdam and Devastation both take place within the city of Rotterdam, with the former depicting the Battle of Rotterdam and the latter showing the aftermath of the German bombing that destroyed the city on May 14th 1940. The maps feature the United Kingdom and Germany as factions.

The Combined Arms missions of Harbor Headquarters and Market Sweep are based on the Rotterdam multiplayer map, and take place within the same area.

Although the military forces of the Netherlands do not appear in-game, they are mentioned in the announcer dialogue and scene-setting text of the Raid on Rotterdam Grand Operation, which ends in the country surrendering to the Germans and the Dutch royal family fleeing to Britain. Announcer dialogue during the Rotterdam Combined Arms missions also makes mention of the Dutch Resistance. A Dutch Fokker D.XXI appears in a piece of concept art for Rotterdam.
