"The Viet Cong relied on the element of surprise throughout the Vietnam conflict. They constructed vast tunnel networks that allowed them to transport arms, initiate attacks, and safely escape from battles. One such network was constructed north of Saigon in what the USA called the Iron Triangle, an area bordered by Chu Chi[sic], Ben Suc, and Ben Cat. Due to its proximity to Saigon, the USA conducted a massive operation in the winter of '67 to root out all VC forces from the area."

— Map Briefing

Operation Cedar Falls is a map featured in Battlefield Vietnam, added in the v1.2 patch. It is loosely based on the real Operation Cedar Falls.

It is one of two maps with tunnels, the other being Saigon - 1968.

Bases[]

Chu Chi Base[]

The initial US airfield. It spawns two A-1 Skyraiders (one of each variant), an OH-6 Loach, a Huey Slick, and two unarmed MUTT. Under Viet Cong control, the MUTT will be replaced by 469s, but there will be nothing to replace the aircraft.

USA Armor Base[]

The northeastern US control point. It spawns an M113, two M50 Ontos, and an unarmed MUTT. Under Viet Cong control, it spawns three BTR-60 and a 469.

USA Infantry Base[]

The northwestern US control point. It spawns two unarmed MUTT and an M113. Under Viet Cong control, it will spawn two 469s and a BTR-60.

Ben Suc[]

The western overland Viet Cong control point. It spawns two 469s. Under US control it will spawn two unarmed MUTT.

Ben Cat[]

The eastern overland Viet Cong control point. It spawns two 469s and a T-54. Under US control it will spawn two unarmed MUTT and an Ontos.

Tunnels[]

The tunnels are a special part of this map. There are three entrances to the tunnels. The US side has the advantage as they have the Mossberg 500 shotgun while the Viet Cong doesn't even have anything like it. Mines are extremely useful in these parts.

Tunnel HQ[]

The southeastern tunnel control point under Viet Cong control.

Tunnel Main Hall[]

The northwestern tunnel control point under Viet Cong control.

Trivia[]

  • The loading screen background and text are shared with Landing Zone Albany.
  • The cut vehicle Zippo was originally intended to be featured on this map, as the object spawner that spawns the M-113 or BTR-60 is referred to as ZippoSpawner.
  • The localization file lexiconAll.dat refers to a cut control point named "Phu Hop", but its intended location is unknown.
  • At the Tunnel Main Hall control point, on a desk, one can find a low-resolution version of the minimap of Siege of Khe Sahn.
