The Phalanx CIWS is an Anti-Air turret found on some American, British and Canadian warships such as the USS Essex and the HMS Ocean. The Turret is a CIWS (Close-In Weapons System) that acts as Point Defense against Anti-Ship missiles. It can be manually controlled by a gunner or computer controlled, allowing it to automatically detect, track, and engage targets. The turret's armament comprises a 20mm autocannon capable of firing rounds at a rate of 4,500 Rounds per Minute (RPM) with a 360 degree firing arc and a Missile Launcher loaded with 8 Anti-Air missiles.
The land variant of the Phalanx CIWS, the Counter Rocket, Artillery, and Mortar (C-RAM), appears in Battlefield 3.
Battlefield 2
The Phalanx CIWS made its first appearance in Battlefield 2. It is an anti-aircraft weapon, an immobile minigun with a rapid rate of fire and moderate damage.

Battlefield 3
— Battlelog description
In Battlefield 3, the C-RAM functions as the American anti-air emplacement. It is typically placed near the runway at the main base (US Deployment), watching the nearby airspace but generally out of sight of the rest of the map. The Russian counterpart to the C-RAM is the Pantsir-S1.
Unlike the LAV-AD, the C-RAM has Zoom Optics enabled by default.
On maps where the USS Essex functions as the US airbase, the Phalanx weapon system is also referred to as a C-RAM for statistical purposes. It is also used in Damavand Peak in Rush mode; it is located in the U.S. spawn base. Other examples include Operation Firestorm , Caspian Border, Kharg Island, Gulf of Oman, and Wake Island. Strangely, there are two C-RAMs located in Kharg Island with one on the Island and another on the carrier while there is only one Pantsir-S1. However, one spawns on the beach in Conquest with the other one on the carrier spawning in Rush.

Trivia
- Though the C-RAM is not invulnerable to powerful ordinances such as C4, players should note that the C-RAM is highly resistant to damage and therefore should be avoided it if it is being employed by the enemy team.
- Using this or the Pantsir-S1 does not count toward anti-aircraft upgrades on mobile vehicles; use of the weapon is essentially pointless, unless the enemy is spawn camping the base with aircraft.
- The weapon will take around 50-60% damage when hit with TV missiles from attack helecopters.
- The 1.04 patch gave the C-RAM and Pantsir S-1 Air Radar.
