The QBZ-97, or Type 97 Carbine, (Chinese: 轻型步枪自动97式), is a variant of the venerable Chinese QBZ-95. It is a bullpup carbine in the Battlefield series. It fires the 5.56x45mm NATO round rather than the QBZ-95's 5.8mm round, and features a shortened carrying handle as well as a built-in foregrip.

Battlefield 2

In Battlefield 2, the QBZ-97 is the standard primary weapon of the Spec Forces kit for the PLA. It is the most accurate of the basic level carbines, and when prone is more accurate than the G36C. The iron sights are similar to that of the G36C's or G3's though, as it has an open/aperature sight with the focus created from the front post just like the G36C and the G3.

Overview of the QBZ-97

Trivia

  • In the Battlefield 2 game files, the weapon is referred to as "chrif_type95" instead of Type 97 or QBZ-97, indicating that it was originally intended to be the QBZ-95 rifle which was featured in Battlefield 2: Modern Combat.
  • The QBZ-97 was originally intended to be included in Battlefield 3 with the Back to Karkand expansion pack, under the name Type 97. However, it was later replaced with the QBZ-95B.
