The Fusil Automatique Modèle 1917 (English: Model 1917 Automatic), or RSC M1917 (RSC standing for its designers, Ribeyrolles, Sutter and Chauchat, who previously designed the Chauchat), is a French semi-automatic infantry rifle. Developed in 1917 and produced until the end of World War I, it went into service with the French Army near the end of the war. The rifle was chambered in the same cartridge as the Lebel Model 1886, with which it shared some parts. With 86,000 rifles manufactured before production ended in 1918, the RSC 1917 was one of the first semi-automatic rifles to be adopted on such a large scale. Very few rifles have survived in full, working condition, making them rare and highly sought-after collectibles.

Battlefield 1

This item has a Codex entry: RSC 1917
"A French experimental self-loading rifle, deployed in the later stages of the Great War."

— In-game description

The RSC 1917 is a weapon introduced in the Battlefield 1: They Shall Not Pass expansion for the Medic class.

All medic rifles are affected in the same way of Spread, spamming the trigger will increase spread significantly to the point accurate shots are not possible. While this doesn't matter much at point blank since majority of ones shot will hit regardless of spread, at longer range slowing downs one Rate of fire can make for the spread at that range.

The RSC 1917 is unique amongst the medic rifles with its ability to kill targets with two shots in the upper torso up to seventy meters, however Headshots will not one shot kill (only doing 90.1 damage at max damage) but will be enough to trigger the "Assist counts as kills". After which it becomes three shot kill unless a headshot and body shot hit. It has an above average velocity of 720 m/s which is sixth best in terms of velocity for the SLRs.

Its tradeoffs while sporting a high Time to Kill (best of its class from 15-80 meters), is an abysmal rate of fire that is lowest of its class (at 179 RPM), which can make missing close quarter or even long range shots significantly increasing the time to kill, heavier recoil compared to other weapon in its variants which can displace shot placement.

Similar to weapons with interchangeable magazines, the RSC 1917 can only reload by replacing its 5-round clip, though the closed-bolt design allows an extra round to be chambered. Its recommended to always reload with one or two rounds in the magazine.

The RSC works best at range where it can easily dominate over other rifles, with practice and good aim, one can easily dispatch two to three enemy players with a full magazine plus one in the chamber. Spread of the RSC 1917 is identical to other factory/storm variants alongside its optical variant.

The RSC 1917 like most DLC Variant has two variants: Factory and optical. Both variants are unlocked by completing challenges pertaining to them. When comparing both, the Factory has iron sights, recovers from better hipfire alongside recoils from recoil faster. While the Optical has less spread while Aiming Down Sights moving/not moving and less spread per shot.
