I am so very sorry to tell you that Klaus' plane was shot down last week. He did not survive.
His mother got the message earlier this week and is heartbroken as you would expect her to be. That's both of her children now. I cannot image what that poor woman must be going through. I know you are all fighting for Germany, but I can barely reconcile it with the waste of life, it seems such a short time since you were all at school together. None of us would have imagined this horror for you all in such a near future.
We're going to head to the river where you all used to fish in the summer this evening to say a few words for Klaus, it seems wrong that none of his friends can be there seeing as you're trapped in this never ending war, but I thought that as I've also known him since you were both four, it could be some comfort to you knowing that I will be there to represent you and remember him.
Please take care my darling boy, I don't know what I would do without you.
