A supressed SG 553 in the hands of Malaysian Air Force PASKAU commando during LIMA 2009.

The SG553, a slightly improved version of the SG552, is the SBR (Short Barrel Rifle) version of the SIG SG550. It fires the 5.56x45mm NATO round from a 5, 10, 20 or 30 round magazine at 700 RPM. The LB version sports a slightly longer barrel to mount bayonets and grenade launchers. The SIG SG550 (Sturmgewehr 90) is the official rifle of the Swiss army and was designed for arctic conditions, making it a very reliable weapon. The SG553 was made for more urban environments, where its shorter size make it a formidable close range tool. The LB version increases accuracy slightly while increasing the overall profile, though the rifle is already highly accurate out to ~200-250 meters

ted on the four page fact sheet released by EA at Gamescom. It has also been spotted in Battleblog #8 as an example of the weapon customization in the game, sporting a 30 rounds magazine.

In Singleplayer, the SG553 appears in the hands of French police during Comrades, and one with no attachments is encountered near the end of The Great Destroyer. The SIG has high damage and high rate of fire with virtually nonexistent recoil.

The SG553 is unlocked for multiplayer, when an overall score of 120,000 points is reached. Formerly (Before the R3 patch), 378,000 points were required to be achieved in Co-Op. It is the sixth weapon unlocked from Co-Op. It features a 30 round magazine, and is capable of both fully automatic, 3-round burst, and semi automatic fire, while also having a moderatly high damage and a fairly low recoil. Due to this low recoil, the gun performs well at medium and close ranges. Much of the recoil this gun has is somewhat strong rightwards recoil, which is greatly helped by using the Foregrip attachment, which significantly reduces this sideways recoil.

The iron sights on this weapons are unobstructive and easy to use; therefore, this gun may be a good match for those who prefer to use iron sights.

Trivia

  • In the fact sheet relased by EA at Gamescom this gun was referred as the SG553LB (Long Barrel), although in the final version of the game it uses the short barrel configuration.
  • Intrestingly, the SG553 has a higher minimum damage with a Suppressor than without one.
