In singleplayer, all Russian snipers wield this weapon.
In multiplayer, the SV-98 is the default sniper rifle issued to the Russian Recon kit. It, like all bolt action rifles in-game, kills in a single headshot or two shots to the body. The M24 is its American equivalent and the GOL rifle is its MEC counterpart.
Battlefield: Bad Company 2
The SV-98 is a bolt action sniper rifle in Battlefield: Bad Company 2. It is unlocked by earning 3900 points with the "Recon" kit. It is less powerful than the M24 but has a large magazine of ten rounds compared to the 5 rounds that the M24 holds, and cycles the bolt slightly faster. It also uses a stacked chevron-style reticle instead of the conventional crosshairs of snipers such as the M24 or M95. It can be fitted with several unlockable upgrades, such as a normal red dot sight, a 4x ACOG scope, a 12x high-powered scope, or a spotting scope. Despite the damage difference, one headshot will still kill a target from long range.
Trivia
- In the BETA of Bad Company 2, the SV98 had a green finish to it. It was since changed to a matte black finish.
- In Bad Company, it is impossible to find this weapon without being accompanied by the MP-443 Grach in either singleplayer or multiplayer.
