Reception

Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons of WWII received generally positive reviews from critics. The expansion pack has a score of 79[1] at Metacritic based on 18 reviews and a score of 82.47%[2] at GameRankings based on 31 reviews.

GameSpot gave it a score of 8.2 out of 10,[3] saying that "Secret Weapons of World War II adds plenty of new features, and nearly all of these new features are great. However, considering how much it retails for, it probably could have offered more. Nevertheless, its additions are extremely enjoyable to play around with and, in some cases, really change the gameplay of the original in new and intriguing ways. The new additions should give fans of Battlefield 1942 reason to keep right on playing their favorite online shooter."

IGN gave it a score of 8.8 out of 10,[4] saying that "Still, assuming you can swallow the more fanciful additions, you'll find plenty of excitement here. The balance is still superb, the physics system embraces the new jet-powered vehicles, and the new maps allow for gameplay almost as compelling as you'd find on Wake or Market Garden. Though the $30 asking price is a bit steep, fans of the series won't be disappointed with this one."

GameSpy gave it a score of 3 out of 5 stars,[5] saying that "If you've played Battlefield 1942, The Road to Rome and Desert Combat to death, need something new and don't mind the $30 price point (or can find it on sale somewhere), it's a great addition to the Battlefield universe.
