The Soviet Union (Russian: Советский Союз, Sovetsky Soyuz), officially the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (Russian: Союз Советских Социалистических Республик, Soyuz Sovetskikh Sotsialisticheskikh Respublik), was a socialist state that extended throughout Central Asia, the Caucasus, and Eastern Europe. It composed of 15 different constituent republics, with the Russian Socialist Federative Soviet Republic as the administrative state. The Soviet Union existed from 1922 to 1991. Its communist government collapsed in 1990, and in 1991, the union was split into 15 non-communist republics, most notably the Russian Federation.
In Battlefield 1942, the Soviet Union is one of the Allied factions. The Red Army fights against the Wehrmacht in four historical battles on the Eastern Front, three of which (Kharkov, Stalingrad, and Kursk) fall within the Soviet Union's own borders.
