Specializations are customization options featured Battlefield V, available for each kit, primary weapons, and vehicles. Specializations are available for soldier kits in the form of Combat Roles which offers two specialization per combat role. Both Primary Weapons and Vehicles have access to an upgrade tree of four ranks.
Players unlock the ability to purchase a specialization with Company Coins by increasing their weapon or vehicle-specific rank to the appropriate level. Aside from the initial specialization, each subsequent specialization on the tree requires the previous specialization to be unlocked. Each stage on a tree offers two specializations, with only one able to be purchased, locking out the other. Upon reaching stage four in a specialization tree, players may then reset purchased specializations and chose those that were previously locked at no additional cost.
Weapon Specialization are oriented around improving the statistics of a weapon, as well as granting new abilities in the form of Weapon Accessories.
All weapon upgrades are the same price and follow a similar path:
The typical paths available are as such:
- At Ranks 1 and 2, either the "left" or "right" choice can be selected without consequence.
- At Rank 3, the choice is locked to the same path chosen for Rank 2. For example, if the "left" choice was chosen at Rank 2, the "left" choice is only available at Rank 3.
- At Rank 4, either the "left" or "right" choice can be selected, regardless of any previous choice.

Vehicles similarly have four ranks of specialization, but each specialization is generally more expensive than weapon at corresponding ranks. As with Weapon Specialization, these can used to improve the performance of some vehicles, giving them better acceleration, more armour or larger ammunition capacity. They can also unlock new abilities such as countermeasures, sights, weapons and ammunition types, as well as open up new passenger seats and alter their weapons.
Vehicle Specialization are priced as follows:
As for upgrade paths, Vehicle Specialization follow the same formula as Weapons in that choosing a path will lock the other side out, except for "Middle" options. Players must choose a path from the start however, locking out either "Left" or "Right" at Rank 1. "Middle" options are offered at ranks 2 and 4.

Trivia
- Specializations were originally known as “Upgrades” in early versions of the game. It was later confirmed by DICE that this was only a placeholder name and that its appearance in the Specialization menu was a bug.
