The Volkssturmgewehr (German: People's Assault Rifle) are a series of rifles designed in Nazi Germany late in World War II. Intended as last-ditch weapons for the party-assembled home guard known as the Volkssturm, the rifles were highly simplified and often crudely assembled due to lack of resources and industrial capacity at the final stage of the war in Europe.

Several companies were involved in manufacture of the series, with Gustloff Werkesm responsible for design and production of the Gustloff Volkssturmgewehr, also known as the VG 1-5. This weapon employed the same 7.92x33mm Kurz cartridge as the earlier StG 44, and although most were semi-automatic only some selective-fire examples were made. From the start of production in January 1945 to the end of the war, around 10,000 of the Gustloff type were manufactured.[1]

Battlefield V

Two variants of the Volkssturmgewehr are set to be featured in Battlefield V - a select-fire assault rifle and a semi-automatic only version, known as the Sturmgewehr 1-5 and the Gewehr 1-5 respectively.
