The T-34 is a Soviet tank and was the mainstay of Soviet armoured forces throughout the Second World War. Its design allowed it to be continuously refined to meet the constantly evolving needs of the Eastern Front: as the war went on it became more capable, but also quicker and cheaper to produce. Soviet industry would eventually produce over 80,000 T-34s of all variants, allowing steadily greater numbers to be fielded as the war progressed. Even after its replacement by the T-54, the T-34 remained in service with many other Warsaw Pact nations and is still in service with over a dozen countries even today.
In Battlefield 1942, the T-34 has two variants which are issued to the Red Army as their Medium and Heavy Tank respectfully. The T-34 which appears as the Soviet Heavy Tank and the T-34-85 as their medium tank.
One can tell a difference between T-34 variants by the color of their armor and gun length, with the T-34-85 being Russian green in appearance and a short gun with an MG on top. With the T-34 having a brown appearance, with a larger gun.
The T-34-85 is a vehicle featured in Battlefield 1942 and is the main Soviet tank. It is the equivalent of the Wehrmacht Panzer IV. It boasts a powerful main cannon that is effective at taking out groups of infantry or heavy armor, as well as a co-axial machine gun for picking off single targets. A second player can man the mounted MG42 to aid in anti-infantry situations and spotting enemies, however, this position is very vulnerable to sniper fire and explosions.
In Battlefield 1942, the T-34 is the Soviet Union's heavy tank. It is often seen alongside the T-34-85. It holds a few major differences to the latter: it can only host a single player that controls the tank and its main turret, as there is no mounted machine gun atop the T-34. Being a heavy tank, the T-34 has considerably more armor and main cannon power, though is also slower.
The main cannon has 30 rounds in reserve and is very powerful, usually meant for use against other armored vehicles. The co-axial machine gun has 400 rounds in reserve. The machine gun's purpose is to be used against infantry and light vehicles.
