My Mimi, my little mouse.
Thank you for your card, it warmed my heart.
It is good to hear you're recovering. I heard from newcomers that the Germans went up to Nantes by now. I know deep down that you'll resist in your own way. We all do.
This morning they told us that we were going to attack a battery in the mountains. I try to be brave. Each time we take off, I tell myself that I don't want to fly. But I face it anyway. My heart pounds at the thought of never seeing you again.
As I write this letter in flight, perhaps leading to our end, I look down through the windows and it comforts me that if anything were to happen to me I won't be so far from you.
But don't worry, as long as I have your three lucky coins I will carry your protection with me, no matter what happens.
With what I see each day, it is difficult to close my eyes each night. But then I remember our promises to see the whales in Norway and my mind finds peace.
With all my heart,
PS: Please send me in your next card your recipe of "veau maringo", a comrade from Avigon challenged me to cook it after I told him it's the best thing you can taste on earth.
